Mumbai Accident News: BMC Worker Dies In Vikhroli Hit-And-Run On Eastern Express Highway

According to the police, Bharpur, a resident of Kannamwar Nagar 2 in Vikhroli East, worked with the BMC as a helper on a garbage collection vehicle, was returning home from work around 7:30 PM on August 10. He had boarded a bus from Kurla and got off at the Kannamwar Nagar bus stop.

A 42-year-old BMC worker tragically lost his life after being hit by a speeding vehicle on the Eastern Express Highway near Vikhroli East on August 10. The victim, Ankush Eknath Bharpur, was critically injured in the hit-and-run and later died while undergoing treatment at Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar.

Victim Was Returning from Work

According to the police, Bharpur, a resident of Kannamwar Nagar 2 in Vikhroli East, worked with the BMC as a helper on a garbage collection vehicle, was returning home from work around 7:30 PM on August 10. He had boarded a bus from Kurla and got off at the Kannamwar Nagar bus stop. While attempting to cross the Eastern Express Highway, he was struck by an unidentified vehicle travelling at high speed from Mumbai towards Thane.

Driver Fled Without Helping

The driver fled the scene without stopping to help. Locals who witnessed the incident immediately informed the police and rushed the severely injured Bharpur to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital in Tagore Nagar. After receiving preliminary treatment, he was transferred to Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar for further care. Despite efforts by the medical team in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), he was declared dead at 3 AM on August 11.

Police Launch Investigation

Following a complaint filed by his 20-year-old son, Vinod Bharpur, the Vikhroli Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act. Investigations are ongoing to identify and trace the absconding driver.
