Mumbai ACB Nabs EOW Constable Red-Handed For Accepting Bribe From Tobacco Seller

According to the ACB, the complainant has a retail business of tobacco and betel nuts. To continue the said business as well as to help in the business, constable Vishal Yadav, demanded Rs 5,000 as a good luck amount and Rs 10,000 per month bribe from complainant.

The Mumbai Unit of Anti-Corruption Bureau has caught a police constable from Economic Offences Wing's CB Control red-handed for allegedly demanding and accepting bribe from a tobacco seller in order to allow him to run his business smoothly.

The accused police constable has been identified as Vishal Yadav.

According to the ACB, the complainant has a retail business of tobacco and betel nuts. To continue the said business as well as to help in the business, constable Vishal Yadav, demanded Rs 5,000 as a good luck amount and Rs 10,000 per month bribe from complainant.

Constable Yadav also instructed the complainant that the money has to be paid to him between 5th to 7th of every month only then he will be allowed to run his business. Accordingly, the complainant allegedly paid Rs. 5,000 good luck amount to the constable.

Then on 07/02/2025, constable Yadav contacted the complainant on his mobile phone and asked why he had not come with the money, to which the complainant said that he would meet him on Monday. As the complainant did not want to pay bribe to the constable, he came before the ACB Mumbai Division office on Monday and lodged a complaint.

"During the verification action conducted on 10/02/2025 in pursuance of the said complaint, it was found that the constable had agreed to accept the bribe by asking the complainant to continue his business and help him. Accordingly, during the immediate entrapment operation, the constable Yadav was caught red handed while accepting bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant. A case has been registered against Yadav under relevant section of the Prevention of Corruption Act," said an ACB official.
