A 46-year-old woman, her two daughters, one aged 21 and another 17 years, and their 60-year-old driver were found dead at the former’s residence in Kandivali West on Wednesday night. The police suspect the driver killed his employer and her elder daughter before dying by suicide with the younger one, who he was in love with.

However, the police have found a suicide note in which the driver has confessed to three murders and his own death by suicide as his employer didn’t approve of his love for the 17-year-old girl. The woman’s husband was away in Indore at the time of the incident.

The victims have been identified as Kiran Dalvi, her daughters Muskan and Bhumi, and driver Shivdayal Sen. The building where the bodies were found was owned by the family and used to be a hospital earlier. The locals said the Dalvi family was influential in Kandivali, as even the road where the building is located is named ‘Dr Dalvi Marg’ after Kiran’s father.

According to the police, the main control room received a call at around 11.22 pm on Wednesday, informing them that a man carrying a sickle had been spotted at the Dena Bank junction. The information was relayed to the police station and a team was rushed to the spot.

Senior police inspector Dinkar Jadhav said, “On questioning the local residents, we found out that the man was seen entering the Dalvi Hospital building along with two women, and that loud screams were heard shortly thereafter. We rushed to the building and found two women lying in a pool of blood on the second floor.” The police found the bodies of the teenage girl and the driver on the first floor. All four were rushed to Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali, where they were all declared dead before admission.

Jadhav said four suicide notes written by Shivdayal Sen were found in his pocket, in which he had written that he had killed the three women and then died by suicide, as he was in love with Bhumi.

Jadhav said, “We have informed Kiran’s husband. He is on his way to Mumbai. We will be questioning him to try and substantiate the claims made by Sen in his note.”

Police inspector Deepshikha Ware said the crime could have been pre-meditated. “We are still investigating the exact sequence of events. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem,” she said.

Meanwhile, a case of murder under the Indian Penal Code has been registered against Sen. As per procedure, a closure report will be filed in court after completion of the investigation.
