Mumbai: For the second consecutive day, the city reported five Covid deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 19,604 so far. Of the total deaths reported, four are above 70 years and one is above 60 years, all with comorbidities.
However, there was a drop in the daily Covid cases to 1,062 on Monday, taking the total Covid tally to 11,08,433 so far.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra, reported 2,369 cases on Monday, compared to 6,943 recorded just a day earlier, pushing the sate tally to 79,65,035, with 1,47,910 fatalities to date.
Dr Sulaiman Ladhani, consulting chest physician at Masina Hospital, said, “The deaths due to Covid are increasing in people who are over 65 years of age and have comorbidities, which makes them more prone. It has been observed that most of them coming in with other ailments are coincidentally detected with Covid. So, Covid is not directly responsible.”
