Mumbai: 3 persons injured in Chunabhatti landslide

After heavy rainfall for the last two-three days, a portion of the hill collapsed on the Ground plus one chawl.

Three people were injured in a landslide at Narayan Hadke, Nagoba Chowk near Chunabhatti on Wednesday. The incident occurred at 11.30 am in the morning. A portion of a hill collapsed in the chawl which is ground plus one floor. Three of them were admitted to the Lokmanya Tilak Hospital at Sion and their health is stable.

There is a hill near Nagoba Chowk at Chunabhatti. And many slums are around the hill. After heavy rainfall for the last two-three days, a portion of the hill collapsed on the Ground plus one chawl.

Shubham Sonawane (15), Prakash Sonawane (40) and Surekha Virkar (28) are the names of injured. Prakash Sonawane has injuries on their hand and ribs and Surekha Virkar Sustained sustained abrasion to their right hand she is allowed to go home after treatment. Shubham has injuries on his stomach and left leg.

After the incident, the Fire brigade, police and ward officers reached the spot and started a rescue operation.

The injured are admitted in the Sion hospital.

Chief Firebrigade Officer, Hemant Parab Said, "On arrival at the scene of incident, it was learnt that some hill portion had collapsed and fallen on nearby 3 to 4 rooms of chawl structure used for residential purpose. As a precautionary measure, said room and adjacent rooms were vacated."

Parab further said, "One male person namely Shubham Sonavane was rescued by public and taken to Sion hospital in a police van before the arrival of the fire brigade. Two persons were rescued by firebrigade jawans using various rescue tools."

Mahadev Shinde, Assistant Municipal Commissioner L ward said, "After the incident, we rushed to the spot injured were admitted to the hospital. We shifted around 25 families to nearby Swadeshi Municipal schools water and food have been provided to them. Before monsoon, we had given them notices to vacate the place as there were chances of the landslide but they didn't listen to notice"
