Mumbai: The South Cyber Police have arrested two more individuals in connection with posting objectionable content against Maharashtra State Women's Commission chairperson Rupali Chakankar on social media. The accused were apprehended from Solapur and Pune and later brought to Mumbai for further investigation. The accused, identified as Digambar Dalve (30) from Mohol Taluka, Solapur, and Avinash Bapu Pukale (30) from Sangola Taluka, Solapur, were arrested on Tuesday.

The case was initially registered in December 2024 after an obscene image and derogatory comments were posted on a Facebook page titled "Rajkaran Maharashtra Che." The posts were allegedly deliberate and repeated, prompting many social media users to add offensive remarks. A staff member of the Women's Commission filed a complaint with the Cyber Police Station, leading to an investigation.

As part of the probe, the police had earlier arrested Dattatray Shinde (38) from Ahmednagar on December 28 for making insulting remarks on the controversial post. Notices were also served to several individuals linked to the case.

The latest arrests include Akash Digambar Dalve (30) from Mohol Taluka, Solapur, and Avinash Bapu Pukale (30) from Sangola Taluka, Solapur. Dalve was nabbed in Solapur, while Pukale was tracked down in Urali Kanchan, Pune. Both were subsequently produced before the Metropolitan Court in Girgaon and remanded into judicial custody.

According to an official, more than a dozen people have been questioned, and seven individuals have been served notices in connection with the case. Meanwhile, the police have also sought details from Facebook regarding the creator of the page and the origin of the offensive post. As of now, three people have been arrested, and notices have been issued to six others. "Till date, we have taken action against nine accused for posting objectionable, obscene, and insulting content against the State Women's Commission chairperson Rupali Chakankar. Further action will be taken once we receive Facebook's report," a senior officer stated.
