Mumbai: An 18-year-old college student, Sahil Jhujham, was killed in a road accident in Aarey Colony, Goregaon East, on January 5. The accident occurred when a speeding truck, driven by Sirajuddin Mohammed Ayub Aga Syed, 45, who resides in Kurla West, collided with a motorcycle. Sahil, who was riding a pillion, succumbed to his injuries, while the motorcyclist, Mahendra Ingle, 21, sustained serious injuries.
The accused truck driver initially fled the scene but was later arrested by the police. A police officer stated, "The truck driver fled after the accident but was apprehended later. No prior cases were found against him. Neither the driver nor the victims were under the influence of alcohol. The deceased was a college student residing in Prajapurpada in the Aarey area."
According to the police, the accident occurred around 9 PM near Picnic Garden in Aarey Colony. The truck driver, Syed, was reportedly driving at high speed and changing lanes recklessly when he hit the motorcycle coming from the opposite direction.
Mahendra Ingle, the motorcyclist, suffered severe serious injuries, while Sahil sustained critical head injuries. Passersby transported Sahil to Seven Hills Hospital in Andheri East, where doctors pronounced him dead. His body was later sent to Siddharth Hospital in Goregaon West for a post-mortem examination. Ingle is receiving treatment in a private hospital.
Sahil’s 41-year-old father, Santosh Jhujham, filed a complaint against the truck driver at the Aarey Colony police station. The police have registered a case under Sections 281 (rash driving), 106(1) (causing death by negligence), and 125(a) and 125(b) (acts endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. The case is being investigated by the Aarey Colony police under the supervision of Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Patil.
