Dombivli: Kalyan Lok Sabha MP Dr Shrikant Shinde on Sunday inspected several ongoing development projects in Dombivli and pulled up contractors over the quality of work, directing them to use high-grade materials and warning that substandard construction would not be tolerated.

Shinde reviewed the progress of the Savitribai Phule Natyagruha, Sant Sawalaram Maharaj Sports Complex, the under-construction cancer hospital and Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari Auditorium, among other projects.

Cancer hospital targeted for December 2027 launch

During the inspection, Shinde reviewed the Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari Auditorium in Dombivli West and the upcoming cancer hospital. He directed officials to expedite the work and said the target was to make the cancer and multi-speciality hospital operational by December 2027.

He also said efforts were being accelerated for the redevelopment of the 500-bed Shastrinagar Hospital and Rukminibai Hospital, along with plans to establish a medical college for the Kalyan-Dombivli region.

'Government work should not look like government work'

At the Savitribai Phule Natyagruha, Shinde reviewed the stage, seating arrangements and other facilities. The administration is targeting completion by October or early November. He also directed officials to prepare a detailed plan for an art gallery at the venue within 10 days.

While inspecting the Sant Sawalaram Maharaj Sports Complex, Shinde said the facility would be among the largest sports complexes in the country and was targeted for completion by 2027.

Expressing displeasure over the quality of certain works at the Savitribai Phule Natyagruha, Shinde told contractors that the projects must be built to a high standard.

Make the work grand, but do not compromise on quality. It should not look like government work; it should look like private work. From marble to every other material, the quality must be high. Substandard work will not be tolerated he said.

Shinde also instructed civic officials to closely monitor the quality and progress of the projects and ensure that contractors strictly adhere to prescribed standards.
