Mumbai : The work on the 1.6km Bandra-Kurla Complex–Chunabhatti connector will gather pace now as the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) would formally get possession of a land that delayed the start of work from Chunabhatti-end. The connector is aimed to provide seamless travel between eastern suburbs and the business district of BKC.

MMRDA officials said that though work had started from the BKC-end it was progressing slowly. The MMRDA has entered into an agreement with Somaiya Trust — who own the land — to take possession of the 5,000 sq m plot.

“Work has started from BKC-end. Now, work will soon start from the other side too, as we have got into an agreement with the Somaiya Trust. They have agreed to hand over the land to us; so hopefully by next week we will get possession of the land and work will progress from both sides,” said UPS Madan, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA.

The work was scheduled to start from Chunabhatti-end much earlier, but was stuck due to access to the land required for the ramp. Once completed, this Rs 200-crore elevated connector will help motorists coming from the eastern suburbs reach BKC in 10 minutes.

“The Chunabhatti-end being more accessible the work would be faster. Here we have to cross Mithi River first and there is no land-side available at BKC-end. It is much easier from the other side.” The connector will start from G-Block in BKC and culminate near Somaiya Trust Ground on the Eastern Express Highway after crossing Mithi, LBS Marg and CR tracks at Sion on the Main line and Chunabhatti on the Harbour line.
