Amid the heavy downpour, a pothole ridden road claimed the life of a 37-year-old biker in Kashimira on Tuesday. The deceased who has been identified as-Mohnish Ahmed Irfan Khan (37) was a resident of Sandhurst Road in Mumbai. The accident was reported near the bus stop in Kajupada area located on the Thane-Ghodbunder Road in Kashimira at around 11 am on Tuesday, when Khan was on his way to Mumbai from Mumbra on his motorcycle.
Khan apparently lost his balance while negotiating a pothole, fell down and was mowed down by a State Transport (ST) bus coming from behind. The bus was headed to Borivali from Thane. A profusely bleeding Khan was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead before arrival. The pothole ridden stretch of road in Kajupada has been witnessing a spate of mishaps.
The Kashimira police have registered a case under sections 304-A (causing death due to rash or negligent act) of the IPC and relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act against the ST bus driver. However, the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) is responsible for the death by leaving the road in a battered condition, alleged locals.
