The Mira-Bhayandar division of Adani Electricity Mumbai Ltd.’s (AEML) has finally launched an offensive against habitual defaulters for long pending arrears amounting close to Rs. 1.20 crores in the Patel Compound area of Kashimira. “Besides disconnecting electric meters of 20 consumers who were on the defaulters list for almost two decades, the AEML team also detected five cases of electricity theft in the region which had earned notoriety due to the presence of some anti-social elements who were deliberately creating law and orders problems during the recovery of outstanding electricity dues, said an AEML spokesperson.

The dues had remained pending since the days of BSES Ltd. which was operating as distribution licensee in the area. The two-day drive was conducted amidst tight security cover provided by the Kashimira police to avert any kind of untoward incident. Cases under the relevant sections of the Electricity Act, will be registered at the Kashimira police station against those who were found to be involved in theft of electricity, an official said.
