Mira-Bhayandar: What comes to your mind when you imagine a police station? A lackluster structure with peeling paint, piles of rusted vehicles lying in the premises and chambers cramped with dusty files -generally sums up average expectations.

However, all these imaginations and expectations are a thing of the past. Some of the police stations in the Mira Road division of the Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar (MBVV) police which had already had tidied up their house to order after their elevation from a rural force to a commissionerate in 2020, are now revamped to sport a swanky look both- externally and internally, involving modernizing the infrastructure and design.

Three police stations including Kashimira have received a complete makeover on the virtue of funds provided by the district planning and development committee (DPDC). From record room, lock-up and muddemal (property) room to Hirkani Kaksha (dedicated breast-feeding space for lactating mothers), investigating areas and women’s room- all have been renovated and refurbished under the supervision of senior police inspector-Rajendra Kamble.

Even the reception desk, manned by on-duty police personnel and the passport verification enclosure, displays a marked departure from the dour styling paving way for a much more visitor friendly and corporate-style makeover.

A library has also been set up which has all types of multilingual books ranging from law to literature and study material which are needed to prepare for examinations to qualify for promotions. Besides the renovation work, the focus was also on implementing eco-friendly measures by installing smart power saving electrical appliances, cross ventilated rooms and landscape greenery outside the entrance lobby after getting rid of junked vehicles.

Apart from the Kashimira, the other newly renovated police stations including -Navghar and Mira Road were inaugurated by MBVV chief- Madhukar Pandey. The pendency rate of Kashimira police station is pegged at 22 percent indicating that most of the applications have been resolved.

Part of a broader initiative by the state government to make police stations more visitor-friendly, the renovations also align with the 100-day governance improvement campaign set by chief minister- Devendra Fadnavis.

All police units in the state will be ranked on the basis of a set of parameters to be evaluated by the Quality Council of India (QCI). Notably, the MBVV police had recently launched the Quick Response (QR)-based review system to gather public feedback at all police stations.
