Palghar, Maharashtra: The Central Crime Detection Unit (CCDU) of the Mira Bhayandar Vasai Virar (MBVV) Police Commissionerate has successfully apprehended two individuals involved in a "digital arrest" scam, where an elderly man from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, was defrauded of a staggering ₹95 lakh.
Accused Used Fake Digital Arrest Tactic To Intimidate Victim
The accused, identified as Mohammed Iqbal Balasaheb and Shain Iqbal Balasaheb, both brothers, allegedly exploited the advanced age of the 74-year-old victim, B.N. Singh, by digitally arresting him and extorting a hefty ransom.
Case Registered In Lucknow Under IPC & IT Act; Arrests Made In Mira Road
The case was initially registered on April 8, 2025, at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act.
MBVV Police Coordinated With Lucknow Cyber Crime Team For Arrests
Inspector Sunil Kumar Singh of the Lucknow Cyber Crime Police Station, along with his team, traveled to Mira Road to investigate the matter. They sought assistance from Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Sandeep Doifode, MBVV Police Commissionerate.
Doifode promptly directed Assistant Police Inspector Aviraj Kurade of the Central Crime Detection Unit to provide all necessary support. Acting on these orders, officers and personnel from the CCDU swiftly located and detained both Mohammed Iqbal Balasaheb and Shain Iqbal Balasaheb from Mira Road on July 24, 2025.
The arrested individuals have since been handed over to the Cyber Police, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, for further investigation and legal proceedings.
