Mira-Bhayandar: The crime detection unit attached to the Mandvi police station have arrested a married woman who allegedly abducted the 3-month-old baby boy of her sister-in-law from Vasai last month.

In his statement to the complainant- Nabi Ullah Choudhary stated that his sister-in-law (brother’s wife)- Kitabbunisha had abducted his 3-month-old baby boy from their residence in the Naleshwar Nagar area of Vasai under the pretext of taking him out for a stroll 2 pm on 18, February, 2025. The family was left devastated after the breast-fed baby went missing.

Sensing the seriousness of the case, senior police inspector- Sanjay Hazare roped in personnel from the crime detection unit to conduct investigations and track the woman and rescue the infant. A team led by API Sawant on the virtue of electronic surveillance learnt about the woman’s suspected presence in a remote village in Nalanda district of Bihar.

The team immediately left for Bihar and searched almost every household in -Suryachak, Mirnagar and Sarmera- all remote villages located on the Bihar-Jharkhand border. The team finally apprehended Kitabbunisha and safely rescued the infant from her clutches.

Investigations revealed that Kitabbunisha was having an affair with a man in Sarmera village by concealing the fact that she was already married and had three children.

“With false claims that the child was born due to their physical relationship, the accused woman would make WhatsApp video calls to her paramour when she was alone with the child. She wanted to abandon her hubby and children to start a new life with the man who was apparently unaware of her marital status.” said an officer who is privy to the investigations.

After procuring a transit remand from a local court in Nalanda the woman was brought to the city. While the infant was reunited with his parents, an offence under section 137 (2) of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita for kidnap from lawful guardianship has been registered against the woman who has been remanded to custody. API Balaji Musle is conducting further investigations.
