Mira-Bhayandar: 17 years after brutally murdering his immediate neighbor, the fugitive finally landed into the custody of the crime branch unit (zone II) attached to the Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar (MBVV) for his involvement in the crime.
The accused has been identified as-Akshay Vijay Shukla alias Raju alias Niranjan Kumar. The incident dates back to 27, March, 2008 when Raju murdered his neighbor-Manoj Raj Bihari Sah (25) by smashing his head to the wall and strangling him to death at a printing unit located in the industrial area of Waliv in Vasai.
An offence under section 302 of the IPC for murder was registered at the Manikpur police station. The murder was the fallout of a dispute over the common wall of the tenements in which the accused and the deceased resided. However, he had gone absconding after the crime and managed to evade arrest, despite several attempts by the police.
While re-investigating cold cases, the crime branch unit led by police inspector- Sameer Ahirrao got crucial leads about Raju’s presence in Karnataka. Personnel from the unit immediately left for Karnataka and apprehended Raju from the Mahadevapura area of Karnataka with the help of their local counterparts.
During interrogations, Raju not only confessed to the 2008 murder, but also revealed his involvement in killing four members of his family including- step mother and minor step siblings aged seven, six and four years at their home in Haldia city in Midnapur district of West Bengal on 26, February, 2002.
Based on the complaint registered by his biological father (now deceased) an offence under the relevant sections of the IPC was registered at the Haldia police station in West Bengal against Raju.

After murdering his family members, Raju fled to Mumbai and stayed at Navi Mumbai and Thane by assuming fake identities before moving to Vasai where he murdered Sah in 2008. Further investigations were underway.
