Mira-Bhayandar: Personnel from the crime branch unit (zone II) attached to the Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar (MBVV) police have apprehended a Nigerian national who was found to be in possession of cocaine and mephedrone (MD) collectively valued at more than Rs 11.58 crore in the international market.

Acting on a tip-off received by personnel -Sachin Patil, a team led by police inspector - Sameer Ahirrao raided a flat on the third floor of Mahesh Apartment in the Ever-Shine City area of Vasai at around 12:15 am on Sunday. The team found 48 grams of cocaine in the flat which was occupied by the Nigerian national identified as- Victor Odichinma Omuwala alias Daik Raymond (37).

The team also recovered Victor’s fake passport which was prepared in the name of Daik Raymond and the keys of a flat on the fourth floor of the same building. Upon searching the flat, the team found 22.865 grams of MD and the passport of the occupant identified as-Igwenuba Chimaobi-a native of Lagos in Nigeria establishing his involvement in the crime.

The team also recovered Chimaobi's passport and chemicals which were apparently used to alter the quality of drugs. While Victor was arrested and booked under then Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, his accomplice Igwenuba whose passport was found in the flat is absconding.

Investigations revealed Victor alias Raymonds involvement in a similar offence committed by him in the jurisdiction of the Azad Maidan police in Mumbai. The case has been handed over to the Valiv police to conduct further investigations.

Apart from trying to find the source of the drugs and their potential buyers, the Valiv police in association with the anti-narcotics cell (ANC) counterparts were also checking the documents of the duo to ascertain if the stay in their county was validated or not.
