Mira-Bhayandar: The notorious Bol-Bachchan gang (glib talkers) are not only striking at will in the twin-city, but are also devising novel ways of robbing people, especially women and senior citizens.

About A Recent Incident

In a recent incident a 60-year-old woman was relieved of gold ornaments worth Rs 80,000 by a man who was accompanied by a teenager on Thursday. In her statement to the police, the complainant Sarvani Kumawat (60) a resident of Manibhadra Nagar in Bhayandar (east) said that she was walking home from the railway station when the teenager stopped her near Hotel Pyasa. The teenager claimed that he had lost his way. Seconds later the man approached the complainant and said that he had helped the teenager by giving him Rs 1,000 and requested to give him some cash.

When the senior citizen expressed her inability, the man sweet-talked her into removing her mangalsutra and earrings worth Rs 80,000. The man wrapped the ornaments in a handkerchief, but with the sleight of his hand he apparently removed the ornaments and returned the handkerchief, instructing her not to open it until she reached home for her own safety. When the woman opened the bundle at home, she was shocked to find only stones.

A series of similar cases are being reported from various parts of the twin-city at regular intervals even as the police continue to grope in the dark. Meanwhile an offence under sections 381 (cheating) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita has been registered at the Navghar police station in Bhayandar against the unidentified thief’s said an investigating officer while appealing residents, especially women and senior citizens, to avoid having conversation with strangers.
