Mira-Bhayandar: The second fly-over-bridge (FOB) connecting S.K.Stone and Shivar Garden on the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Marg in Mira Road is ready-for-use but is awaiting inauguration at the hands of chief minister- Devendra Fadnavis.

During a site inspection with senior officials from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), Shiv Sena legislator and transport minister-Pratap Sarnaik had said that the FOB will be thrown open for vehicular movement on occasion of Shiv Jayanti on 19, February, 2025. However, the inauguration ceremony did not materialise, apparently owing to the chief minister’s lack of availability.

“Some minor residual works are being completed, however that will not affect the inauguration in any manner. The MMRDA sent a letter to the chief minister on Thursday seeking his time for inauguration. Once the chief minister conveys his availability, the inauguration ceremony will be scheduled accordingly.” said Sarnaik.

Replicating the Nagpur model, the MMRDA has pumped additional funding to provide a double decker viaduct where flyovers for automobiles will be built on the first level and the metro line will run on the second level of the much-awaited Metro-9 (Dahisar to Bhayandar) route.

Apart from ten elevated stations, three fly-overs (elevated around 5.5 metres above the current road level), have been planned on this route to ease traffic congestion.

The first double-decker flyover (connecting Pleasant Park and Silver Park signals) which integrates a viaduct of Metro Line-9 was inaugurated by former chief minister-Eknath Shinde in September, 2024. While the second is complete and awaits inauguration, the third FOB connecting S.K. Stone and Golden Nest is under the advanced stages of construction.

The commissioning of all the three FOB’s will significantly ease traffic congestion and reduce travel time by at least 15 to 20 minutes. Presently, people largely rely on heavily crowded local trains and public transport services forcing people to depend on non-metered auto-rickshaws and cabs for their commute.
