Mira Bhayandar: A day after the Naya Nagar police raided three shops that were found to be selling fake branded footwear, their Kashigaon counterparts along with copyright officials booked the 29-year-old owner of a novelty store on alleged charges of selling counterfeit copies of wristwatches.

About The Case

The action followed in response to a complaint filed by Ramchandra Shinde who manufactures and sells wristwatches and clocks with a duly registered "Fhulun" trademark. Shinde stumbled upon counterfeit watches that were deceptively identical to those bearing his original trademark and were being sold at Kalpana Stationery and Novelty Stores located in the Mangal Nagar area of Kashigaon.

For confirming the anomalies, Shinde purchased a watch but was denied a bill by the owner identified as Ramlal Choudhary (29), following which he approached the local police station. The police raided the shop and seized 66 fake watches. An offence under the relevant sections of the Copyright Act-1957 and Trade Marks Act-1999 has been registered against the owner. Further investigations were underway.
