Mumbai: Commuters on Central Railway's Mumbai division network should prepare for major travel disruptions this weekend, as the Mumbai Division of Central Railway has announced two special traffic blocks—one lasting five hours and the other ten hours—for pre- and post-non-interlocking (NI) work.

The block is part of the platform extension project at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) to accommodate 24-coach trains on island platforms 12 and 13.

According to CR, the first block will start at 11:30 PM on Friday and end at 4:30 PM on Saturday between CSMT and Byculla on the up and down fast lines. Similarly, the second block, lasting ten hours, will start at 11:15 PM on Saturday and end at 9:15 AM on Sunday.

This block will affect train services between CSMT and Byculla on the up and down fast and slow lines, as well as between CSMT and Wadala on the Harbour Line.

"During these blocks, train services on the Central Main Line and Harbour Line will remain suspended between the affected stations. Commuters are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and explore alternative travel options such as the Metro, BEST buses, or private transport" said an official.

The Central Railway authorities have urged passengers to check the latest updates and train schedules before traveling. "The platform extension work is expected to enhance train capacity and improve passenger convenience in the long run" said an official.
