Thane: A doctor from Kalyan was allegedly duped of Rs 90 lakh on the pretext of getting his son admission in a medical college, police said on Sunday. According to a complaint filed by Dr Balkrishna Shetty on Saturday night, he wanted his son to get admission in a medical college for a post-graduate course, Thane City Police Public Relations Officer Sukhada Narkar told reporters. “Shetty came in contact with one Prasad Gadkari, who in turn introduced him to Mahesh Muglikar,” Narkar said.

“Muglikar informed the victim that if he wanted to get his son admitted to a medical college in Karad in western Maharashtra, he would have to pay Rs 1.55 crore or he would have to shell out Rs 1.50 crore for admission to a Navi Mumbai college,” PTI reported Narkar as saying.

“Later Muglikar informed Shetty that his son’s admission to a medical college in Karad was not possible. The accused demanded Rs 90 lakh for getting Shetty’s son admitted to the Navi Mumbai college,” the official added. According to the PRO, Shetty’s son didn’t get admission despite Muglikar being paid Rs 90 lakh. A case under sections 420 (cheating) and 406 (criminal breach of trust) of the IPC has been filed at Kongaon police station, Narkar said, adding a probe was on.
