Mumbai: The Mumbai Police’s main control room received a phone call on Tuesday, threatening a bomb attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flight to the United States. The caller claimed that terrorists had planted a bomb on Modi’s plane and that an American terrorist, who was allegedly responsible for six plane crashes in the past month, was behind the plot.

Mumbai Police have taken the threat seriously and launched an immediate investigation to trace the caller. Upon examining the caller’s history, it was found that the same individual had made over 1,400 calls to the Mumbai Police in the past. Preliminary investigations suggest that the person may not be mentally stable.

Not The First Time Mumbai Police Have Received Hoax Calls

This is not the first time Mumbai Police have received hoax calls. Last year alone, the control room received nearly 100 such false alerts. In October, the number of threat calls crossed the 100-mark. Recently, the Reserve Bank of India also received a threat call on its customer care helpline, where the caller identified himself as the "CEO of Lashkar-e-Taiba."

Bollywood actors Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, as well as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, have also received threats in recent times. Additionally, a woman was found to have made over 30 false calls to the Mumbai Police control room in the past.

Across India, more than 200 threats related to flights were reported last year, with over 70 such messages received in just the first 15 days of October. Investigations have traced some IP addresses to locations in London, Germany, and France, raising suspicions that the culprits may be using VPN services to mask their identities.
