Mumbai: The ruling Mahayuti alliance has finalised a formula for the distribution of district-level development funds, while the allocation of various government corporations is expected to be completed within the next 15 days.
The decisions were discussed at a meeting of the Mahayuti Coordination Committee, which reviewed several contentious issues, including differences among alliance partners at the local level, the pending allocation of government corporations and the distribution of District Planning Committee (DPDC) funds.
Fadnavis directs leaders to improve coordination among Mahayuti partners
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has reportedly issued strict instructions to senior leaders to ensure better coordination among the alliance partners and to resolve differences at the local level.
According to the formula discussed at the meeting, 70 per cent of the district-level development funds will be directly allocated to local MLAs for development works, while the remaining 30 per cent will be retained by the respective guardian ministers. This 30 per cent component will be distributed by the guardian ministers equally among the alliance partners, BJP leader and Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said.
New mechanism introduced to resolve disputes over fund distribution
A mechanism has also been worked out to resolve disputes over fund allocation. In districts where differences arise among Mahayuti constituents, the issue will first be referred to the divisional commissioner for resolution. If no agreement is reached, the Coordination Committee will intervene. In case the dispute still remains unresolved, the final decision will be taken in the presence of the Chief Minister and the two Deputy Chief Ministers.
The meeting also discussed the long-pending allocation of government corporations, an issue being closely watched by party workers across the state. One or two more meetings are likely to be held to finalise changes and appointments to the corporations. The final allocation is expected to be approved within the next 15 days, sources said.
The Coordination Committee also focused on preventing public disagreements among Mahayuti leaders. MLAs and MPs of the alliance have been instructed not to publicly criticise leaders or parties belonging to the alliance.
"All Mahayuti constituents have been instructed to maintain complete coordination at the local level. No MLA or MP should publicly criticise leaders or parties of the alliance," Bawankule told reporters after the meeting.
