Mumbai: Mahashivratri is Considered one of the most auspicious times of the year. This year, the festival dedicated to Lord Shiva will be celebrated on February 26, Wednesday. For the celebration of the festival, here are five temples of Lord Shiva in Mumbai. Temples like Shri Walkeshwar Temple, Shri Babulnath Temple, Balrajeshwar Mahadev Temple, Shri Ambreshwar Shiva Temple and Tungareshwar Shiva Temple are all based in Mumbai.

The festival of Mahashivratri, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is celebrated with great energy and positivity every year across the country. Devotees on this auspicious day perform fast and prayers to Lord Shiva.

While prayers are offered to Shiva during the night, devotees break their fast the following day. On the occasion of Mahashivratri, people in large numbers visit temples to offer 'Panchamrit' to Lord Shiva before breaking fast.

Walkeshwar Temple

Walkeshwar Temple: The Walkeshwar Temple, located in Malabar Hill in South Mumbai, is considered a significant, historically and culturally temple. It was constructed roughly a thousand years ago and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Walkeshwar Temple, also known as the Ancient Hindu Temple. Every Mahashivratri, devotees visit Walkeshwar.

Babulnath Temple: Babulnath Temple is an ancient Hindu temple based in Mumbai, constructed in the 1890s the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Situated on a small hillock near Girgaum Chowpatty, it is one of the oldest temples in the city.

Balrajeshwar Mahadev Temple

Ambreshwar Temple: One of the famous temple located near Mumbai at Ambernath, the Amreshwar Shiva temple is believed to have been built by the Pandavas. It is two kilometres away from the Ambernath station.
