Mumbai: The police have registered a case against a woman who allegedly duped over a dozen people to the tune of Rs 26 lakh on the pretext of providing them government jobs.

According to the police, the complainant, a resident of Boisar, stated that she had met suspect Aarti Patil, a resident of Kandivali in a family function in February 2023. The complainant was informed by his friends that Patil can help people get government jobs. The complainant and Patil then exchanged their numbers.

Since the complainant’s children were also in search of jobs, she decided to approach Patil who assured jobs for her two children and another relative at Palghar Tehsil Office and demanded Rs 1.30 lakh for each candidate and she paid the money.

Later the complainant kept inquiring with Patil about the job who told her that the candidates will initially join the work on a contract basis and then later they would become permanent. Patil had also held a meeting with several other such candidates to whom she had promised jobs and had taken money from them as well.

In June 2023, Patil handed over ID cards and appointment letters of the complainant’s children having an appointment date of November 1, 2023, at the Collector Office at Palghar. However, when the complainant and her children visited the office, they were shocked to know that they had not issued any such ID cards or appointment letters. Later, the complainant learnt that Patil had similarly duped at least 13 more people and had collectively taken Rs 26.15 lakh from the job aspirants.
