Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has directed the Transport Department to take immediate action to remove encroachments from its properties ( Land) across Maharashtra. Chairing a review meeting at the Transport Commissioner’s office on Friday, Sarnaik emphasized the importance of protecting government-owned land by erecting fences and installing signboards to assert departmental ownership.

The meeting was attended by Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar and other senior officials. Minister Sarnaik pointed out that many of the Transport Department's land parcels have been under unauthorized occupation for years. He instructed local officers to conduct detailed surveys, recover encroached land, build boundary walls, and take proactive steps to prevent future encroachments.

“The department must reclaim its land and ensure it is properly demarcated and protected,” Sarnaik said. He added that putting up name boards and enforcing strict monitoring mechanisms would help safeguard government property and maintain accountability.

The review meeting also addressed a range of administrative reforms. Key topics included performance evaluation of officers, the creation of non-executive posts, regular reporting from a special enforcement squad, clearly defining duties of Motor Vehicle Officers, appointing legal advisors, and strategies to enhance departmental revenue.

In a move to promote transparency, Minister Sarnaik reiterated the success of the online transfer system introduced in 2023, which has removed human interference in the process. He instructed officials to update the system further and extend its use to include clerk-level transfers, ensuring uniformity and fairness across the board.
