Maharashtra To Observe MS Swaminathan’s Birth Anniversary As Sustainable Agriculture Day

The government has asked all the agriculture universities in Maharashtra to establish Dr MS Swaminathan Bbio-happiness Centre-Research Centre on any of the topics such as sustainable agriculture, climate adaptation technology and food security.

Mumbai: The state government will observe Bharat Ratna MS Swaminathan’s birth anniversary on August 7 as Sustainable Agriculture Day, recognising his contribution in the field of agriculture, especially in boosting wheat and rice production, according to a Government Resolution (GR) issued Tuesday.

The government has asked all the agriculture universities in Maharashtra to establish Dr MS Swaminathan Bbio-happiness Centre-Research Centre on any of the topics such as sustainable agriculture, climate adaptation technology and food security.

The government has also asked the agriculture commissioner to issue detailed guidelines to commemorate the day by hosting various events across the state. Awards will also be given in the name of the late scientist.
