Mumbai:As Covid-19 cases rise globally, Maharashtra reports a notable increase in active cases, escalating from 12 to 56 in a week, contributing to a national total of 257. Kerala leads with 95 cases and one death. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation notes Mumbai's case surge remains manageable, according to Dr. Daksha Shah.

Although recent deaths of a 14-year-old and a 54-year-old at KEM hospital have raised concerns, BMC clarified they were due to serious comorbidities. In response, BMC has enhanced healthcare capacity for severe cases, including provisions for children and pregnant women, amidst rising respiratory issues.

A report from the Union health ministry shows that Covid cases in India are mostly mild, with no substantial connections to heightened severity or mortality. Given the increase in cases, the director general of health services convened a meeting with specialists from major health organisations, such as the National Centre for Disease Control and the Indian Council of Medical Research.

The majority of cases can be handled without hospital admission, aided by a strong monitoring system for respiratory viruses, such as Covid-19, managed by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme and ICMR. The Union Health Ministry stays vigilant, constantly observing the situation and putting in place essential public health actions.

If case numbers keep increasing, there is a possibility of enlarging hospital capacities. Health officials are dedicated to handling the present situation, emphasizing the health of the public and making sure they remain updated on possible health threats associated with Covid and other respiratory illnesses.
