A team of National Disaster Response Force(NDRF) from Pune arrived in Palghar on Wednesday dawn. The team comprises 20 jawans, 2 officers, with four 30 HP Over Board Motor(OBM) and four Inflatable Rubber Boat(IRB) with a dog squad with a female Labrador named Lovely, said Inspector Arakhita Jena, NDRF, who is leading the operations.
"We have also with us cutting tools to rescue people from buildings, life detector equipment, chemical suits, masks in case of chemical hazards and other equipment," said the official. "We will be stationed in Manor for atleast a month or till further orders," said Jena.
"Since the past few days, Palghar district has received torrential downpour and in the last 24 hours, around 78.30 mm rainfall has been received with Vasai recording 217 mm followed by Palghar 139.43 mm rainfall," said a government official.
The NDRF has also been deployed in Mumbai, Thane, and Kolhapur and one each in Palghar, Raigad, and Ratnagiri, said Jena.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is monitoring the disaster management and response as the downpour continued in many districts of the state including Mumbai, Palghar, Raigad and other areas.
