Political circles in Maharashtra are abuzz with speculation as Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray once again hinted at a potential alliance with the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), led by his estranged cousin Raj Thackeray. Speaking on Friday, Uddhav declared, “Whatever is in the minds of the people of Maharashtra will happen. I will not give any hints now but will provide direct news in a few days.”

His statement comes amidst ongoing discussions about the possibility of a Shiv Sena (UBT)–MNS alliance, especially after Raj Thackeray expressed openness to the idea in a recent interview. Uddhav’s response to Raj’s overture has been increasingly positive, stating earlier that he is ready for anything that benefits Maharashtra.

Adding to the buzz, UBT MP Sanjay Raut has made favorable remarks about the potential tie-up, fueling optimism among supporters of both parties. Party workers in Mumbai and Kolhapur have expressed joy at the possibility of the two Thackeray cousins coming together. “This is what Balasaheb Thackeray’s true followers want – both Thackeray brothers united,” said a Shiv Sainik in Mumbai.

However, MNS leaders remain cautious. Senior MNS leader Sandeep Deshpande noted that the party wants a concrete proposal before proceeding further, citing past disappointments in 2014 and 2017 when similar discussions fell through. “Whatever the people want is one thing, but what matters is what Uddhav Thackeray wants,” he said. “We will wait to see what news he brings.”

The proposed alliance has drawn reactions from across the political spectrum. NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule welcomed the idea, saying she would be happy to see both brothers unite. Congress spokesperson Atul Londhe also supported the move, stating, “If the Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS are coming together to protect Maharashtra’s interests and keep the communal BJP away, we welcome it.”

Meanwhile, leaders of the ruling Mahayuti coalition, including CM Eknath Shinde, DCM Devendra Fadnavis, and DCM Ajit Pawar, have refrained from making strong statements. Fadnavis and Pawar noted it is a matter for the Thackeray cousins and their respective parties, while Shinde has not commented at all.
