Mumbai: The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) is set to undertake a major recruitment drive in the near future. This move is part of the government's plan to strengthen MSRTC financially and operationally. The MSRTC board approved the recruitment proposal in its 307th meeting, and the plan has now been sent for government approval.

According to Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, MSRTC is set to undertake a major recruitment drive in the near future. This move comes as part of the government's plan to strengthen MSRTC financially and operationally.

To enhance the corporation’s service capacity, the state plans to procure 25,000 self-owned buses. With this large-scale acquisition, the demand for skilled manpower—including drivers, conductors, and various other staff categories—is expected to rise sharply.

Minister Sarnaik revealed that the MSRTC board has recently approved a resolution related to this recruitment in its 307th meeting, and the proposal is being forwarded for government approval.

Minister Sarnaik noted that due to the financial crisis faced by MSRTC, the High Court had previously imposed a ban on recruitment within the organization until 2024. However, with a significant number of employees set to retire over the coming years and the addition of new buses, recruiting fresh personnel has become essential. The recruitment process will be implemented in alignment with new staffing structures based on the anticipated increase in the number of operational buses.

Currently, several departments within MSRTC are facing a shortage of skilled manpower. There is a particular need for qualified and educated officers, especially in the engineering department. As MSRTC properties are planned to be developed under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) models in the future, the construction department will also require technically skilled engineers. Accordingly, existing engineering vacancies will be filled through direct recruitment and contractual appointments.

In light of the upcoming recruitment initiative, all departments within MSRTC have been instructed to conduct a comprehensive review of vacant positions and submit consolidated requirements to ensure an efficient hiring process.

“MSRTC will require not just skilled manpower, but also technically sound officers to ensure its empowerment and operational excellence in the future. The recruitment process will be carried out accordingly,” stated Sarnaik.
