Maharashtra's Minister for Women and Child Development, Aditi Tatkare, inaugurated a Police Mitra sculpture and an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) Patrolling Unit at Alibaug Beach, emphasising the need for increased surveillance along Raigad's extensive coastline. The event was attended by District Collector Kishan Jawale, Superintendent of Police Somnath Gharge, Additional Superintendent of Police Abhijit Shivthare, former Mayor Prashant Naik, and other dignitaries.

Raigad district has 31 beaches, 28 of which witness significant tourist footfall, while three remain relatively less crowded. Given this, Minister Tatkare stressed the necessity of enhancing patrolling efforts not only in high-traffic areas but also in secluded locations to ensure safety and security.

Speaking at the event, Tatkare recalled the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts, in which RDX was smuggled through Shekhadi Beach in Shrivardhan taluka. She also referenced past incidents of illegal arms and ammunition seizures from boats along the coastline. Citing these security threats, she underscored the importance of intensifying patrolling efforts along Raigad’s shores to curb diesel smuggling and other illicit activities.

The newly deployed ATV patrolling unit at Alibaug Beach is expected to enhance mobility and efficiency in maintaining law and order. Minister Tatkare also directed District Collector Kishan Jawale to plan for additional ATVs for patrolling other beaches under the District Planning Committee’s innovative schemes.

"This vehicle will primarily be used for patrolling at Alibaug and Varsoli beaches, as only one unit is currently available. During peak tourist seasons, patrolling will be conducted as required. Previously, patrolling was done on foot along the coastline. Once more vehicles are procured, patrolling will be expanded to additional beaches," Additional SP Shivthare stated.

Additionally, a sculpture symbolizing police-public friendliness was also inaugurated by the minister.
