Maharashtra government has invited organisers, delegates and industry stakeholders from across the globe to host world-class events in the state as it pushes to become a global hub for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism.
Maharashtra Tourism Policy 2024 Drives Push For Global MICE Market
The global invitation has been issued exactly one year after launching the targeted fiscal and administrative frameworks under the Maharashtra Tourism Policy 2024 to establish Maharashtra as India’s leading destination for MICE tourism. At the centre of this effort is the Maharashtra Convention Bureau – the first institutional body of its kind established by any Indian state government – which was officially announced at IMEX Frankfurt in May 2025. The bureau has now transitioned into a fully functional, centralised facilitator.
Headquartered in Mumbai, the Bureau functions directly under the leadership of additional chief secretary of tourism. It provides a unified platform connecting government regulatory authorities with private hospitality and logistics sectors to streamline approvals and licensing. The initial focus of the bureau is to promote MICE tourism in Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Pune, Nashik, Nagpur and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar.
Bureau Connects Government Agencies With Private Industry Stakeholders
According to Maharashtra Tourism, MICE delegates generate significantly higher average daily spend than leisure travellers across hospitality, aviation, local transport and dining, beyond immediate venue bookings. Furthermore, business delegates frequently extend their trips into leisure stays, driving broader regional tourism revenue.
The bureau has also rolled out dedicated workforce certification programs to upskill event personnel, alongside offering targeted fiscal incentives under the 2024 policy framework. Industry stakeholders and international organisers can now access single-window clearances directly through the Department of Tourism.
Maharashtra Tourism's additional chief secretary, Sanjay Khandare, said, "Through the Maharashtra Convention Bureau, we are providing organisers with a single point of facilitation and a collaborative platform that makes planning and hosting events easier. With strong connectivity, diverse destinations, modern venues and a supportive policy framework, Maharashtra is well positioned to host global business events. We invite organisers from India and across the world to partner with us and experience the opportunities the state has to offer."
