Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has decided to set up the State Institute of Disaster Management (SIDM) in Nagpur, modeled on the lines of the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) under the Central Government.

About The Institute

The institute will play a crucial role in strengthening the state’s capacity to respond effectively to both natural and manmade disasters. The SIDM will focus on various aspects of disaster management, including preparedness, mitigation, risk and vulnerability assessment, response, rescue operations, relief, rehabilitation, reconstruction, and training.

A 10-acre land parcel has been allotted for the institute at MIHAN (Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur) by the Maharashtra Airport Development Company. The government has approved a budget of Rs187.73 crore for the construction of the institute’s infrastructure.

In addition, approval has been granted to recruit regular and contractual staff, including technical consultants, based on the operational requirements of the institute. The State Executive Committee will act as the governing body for the institute.
