Prahar Janshakti Party leader Bacchu Kadu has called off his ongoing agitation after the Maharashtra government provided a written assurance addressing several of his key demands. These included farm loan waivers, increased pension for the differently-abled, and a total of 17 pressing issues raised by Kadu. The announcement marks a temporary pause in a protest that had garnered wide support across political and social groups.

The protest, which began on June 8 with an indefinite hunger strike in Mozari village of Tivsa taluka, drew attention from opposition leaders and several organisations, who extended their support to Kadu’s cause.

On June 13, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule visited the protest site and held discussions with Kadu. After the meeting, the state government issued a formal written assurance promising action on the demands. One of the key assurances was the formation of a high-level committee within 15 days to examine the issue of farm loan waivers.

Meanwhile, Bacchu Kadu has set a deadline of October 2 for the government to take a final decision on the farm loan waiver. Issuing a stern warning, he said that if no action is taken by then, he will have no option but to storm the Mantralaya in protest.

Key assurances

A decision will be made regarding loan forgiveness

Coercive recovery measures against defaulters will be temporarily halted

A meeting will be held to facilitate the disbursement of fresh agricultural loans

Increasing pension for differently-abled will be addressed
