In a major policy shift aligning with the GST regime and national transport modernization efforts, the Government of Maharashtra has decided to permanently shut down all Border Check Posts (RTO Border Check Posts) across the state. The announcement was made by State Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, who confirmed that the Transport Department has submitted a positive proposal to the Chief Minister after addressing all administrative formalities.
About The Decision
This landmark decision comes in response to repeated appeals and follow-ups by transport unions, stakeholders, and the central government. The move aims to eliminate bottlenecks in interstate transportation, enhance road safety, and implement a paperless, technology-driven monitoring system in line with the ‘Ease of Doing Business’ framework.
As part of the process, compensation of Rs. 504 crore will be paid to the private agency previously appointed for managing integrated check posts, following which all technological and physical infrastructure will be transferred to the Transport Department.
