Mumbai: Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has directed that 10,333.91 sq.m. of land reserved for a Municipal Sports Complex in Anushaktinagar be officially transferred to the BMC to expedite the project. He also confirmed that funding will be made available for the development of modern sports facilities.
The decision was announced during a meeting at the Mantralaya, which focused on the proposed sports complex and issues concerning the Minority Development Department. The meeting was attended by Ministers Dattatray Bharne, Hasan Mushrif, former Minister Nawab Malik, MLA Sana Malik, and senior officials.
Encroachments to Be Cleared, Leases Terminated
Pawar emphasized that the proposed sports complex will be vital for providing quality training and infrastructure to athletes in Mumbai. He also instructed officials to terminate any existing lease agreements with The Children Aid Society and ensure the removal of any encroachments on the land. Coordination with the Revenue Department will be undertaken to complete the land transfer process.
Deputy CM Pawar also directed the Minority Development Department to initiate the construction of an engineering college for minority girls on a reserved plot in Mouje Anik, Chembur.
Research Institute in Sambhajinagar to Be Fully Operationalised
He emphasized the need for planning faculty positions, recruitment, and infrastructure upkeep post-establishment. He also ordered full operationalization of the Minority Research and Training Institute in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, with immediate recruitment to 11 sanctioned posts.
Funding Assured for Sports Infrastructure Developmen
To support the educational and economic development of minority communities, Pawar proposed the implementation of a term loan scheme under the Maulana Azad Minority Economic Development Corporation, modeled on the Annasaheb Patil Corporation. Funds will be allocated for the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Educational Loan Scheme, and student intake limits will be set annually.
