Eknath Shinde broke down today in an emotional speech in the Maharashtra assembly, his first as Chief Minister after an easy trust vote win.

While describing what he alleged were threats to his family over his revolt, Eknath Shinde referred to two of his children who had died and choked up.

"They attacked my family...My father is alive, my mother died. I could not give much time to my parents. They would be asleep when I came and would go to work when I slept. I could not give much time to my son Shrikant. My two children died - at the time, Anand Dighe consoled me and supported me. I used to think, what is there to live for? I will stay with my family," the CM said.

Further, he said, "We are Shivsainiks and we will always be Shivsainiks of Balasaheb and Anand Dighe."

"I want to remind you all who was there who got Bala Saheb's voting banned for 6 years..," he added.

He also revealed that he was supposed to be made CM initially in the MVA govt but later Ajit Pawar or someone said that he should not be made CM.

"I had no problem and I told Uddhav Thackeray to go ahead, and that I was with him. I never eyed that post," added Shinde.

Shinde then thanking Devendra Fadnavis said, "it was the latter who gave him a chance to work as a minister in the last govt and I could work on Samruddhi Mahamarg project.

"He was to give the Deputy CM post to Shiv Sena also (in 2019)," he added.

Meanwhile, Shinde won the crucial floor test in the state Assembly on the last day of the two-day special session of the House.

In the 288-member House, 164 MLAs voted for the motion of confidence, while 99 voted against it.

Three legislators abstained from voting, while 21 legislators, including Congress's Ashok Chavan and Vijay Wadettiwar, were absent during the trust vote.

Speaker Rahul Narvekar announced that the trust vote was carried by a majority vote.

After the death of a Shiv Sena MLA recently, the current strength of the Assembly is reduced to 287, thus the majority mark is 144.
