Nagpur: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday inaugurated and dedicated a slew of developmental projects in Nagpur, including the formal handover of 480 ‘Swapna Niketan’ houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS). The occasion marked a major milestone in the state’s ongoing efforts to strengthen housing and public infrastructure for its citizens.

Fadnavis expressed satisfaction over the completion of the Swapna Niketan project, the foundation of which was laid in 2023 with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. “It is truly fulfilling when a promise made to the people becomes a reality before their eyes,” he wrote in a post on X. Built within two years by Gaurav Agrawal and his team, each home comes equipped with solar systems, lifts, and community halls, all at an affordable cost of Rs 9 lakh under the PMAY scheme.

Maharashtra, Fadnavis noted, has received approval for 30 lakh homes in a year under PMAY, enabling 1.5 crore citizens to achieve home ownership. The state government has also started distributing ownership rights to slum dwellers, ensuring long-term housing security.

Fadnavis inaugurated several key projects during the event, including:

- Panchpaoli Fire Station

- Smart Toilet at Omkar Nagar

- Kalamna Swimming Pool

- Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (27 new centres)

- Tree Transplanter Machine

- New Fire Tenders

- New machinery for the Hot Mix Plant

- Government-funded buses

- A new bridge to Ambazari Ghat

- Beautification and civic infrastructure works

The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of healthcare, announcing that under PM Narendra Modi’s vision, 123 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs have been sanctioned for Nagpur. Of these, 83 are already operational, with 27 more launched on Sunday. He directed officials to build at least 1,000 affordable homes in each of Nagpur’s six constituencies and proposed the development of a Signature Building Model for the health centres.
