Maharashtra Minister Vijay Wadettiwar on Thursday announced the cancellation of Class 12 HSC board examinations in view of the ongoing second wave of COVID-19.

The Centre has already cancelled the CBSE Class 12 board exams. The decisions was taken at a review meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that the decision has been taken in the interest of students. He added that the health and safety of students are of utmost importance, and there would be no compromise on this aspect. Anxiety among students, parents and teachers must be put to an end, and students should not be forced to appear for exams in such a stressful situation, he further said.

The Maharashtra government had earlier announced the cancellation of the Class 10 SSC board exams, citing the present coronavirus pandemic and had decided to promote students on the basis of their performance in Classes 9 and 10.
