In a major decision aimed at strengthening healthcare services for the working class, the Maharashtra Cabinet has approved the allocation of 15 acres of government land at Karodi in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar for the construction of a 200-bed hospital under the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC).

The approval was secured under the leadership and initiative of Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule. In addition to the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar project, in-principle approval was granted to provide government land for nine more proposed ESIC hospitals at the following locations: Pune (Bibvewadi), Ahilyanagar, Sangli, Amravati, Ballarpur (Chandrapur), Sinnar (Nashik), Baramati (Pune), Satara, and Panvel (Raigad).

The Cabinet meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

The region around Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar — including Shendra, Bidkin, DMIC, Waluj, Chikalthana, and areas near the railway station — has witnessed rapid industrial growth and a sharp increase in the working population. To meet the rising healthcare demands of these workers, a state-of-the-art 200-bed ESIC hospital will be established on the allocated land in Karodi. The facility will offer high-quality medical services to workers and their families, while also supporting regional industrial development.

Across all ten approved locations, these hospitals are expected to benefit approximately 48.7 lakh worker families, reaching nearly 2 crore beneficiaries statewide.

Minister Bawankule played a key role in pushing for the land allotments, ensuring momentum for the project across multiple districts.

Government’s Welfare Vision

The government is firmly committed to the health and well-being of workers. By backing the construction of ESIC hospitals, the administration ensures prompt and effective medical services for the labor force. The move aligns with the broader mission of strengthening public welfare infrastructure throughout Maharashtra.

“The government is committed to providing high-quality medical facilities for workers. This decision will bring meaningful improvement to their quality of life.” — Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Revenue Minister.
