Mumbai: The scammers use newer ways to dupe people. The police are on the lookout for a scammer who had specially designed a railway ticket cancellation and refund app which worked as a remote access app and after getting bank account details of the victim, the accused managed to carry out multiple online transfers from the victim's bank accounts.

According to the police, the 54-year-old victim is a resident of Jalna and works as a teacher. Recently while surfing through internet, the victim who wanted to seek refund of a railway ticket came across two mobile numbers which were marked as customer support numbers.

The unsuspecting victim called on one of the numbers and asked the 'customer support executive' to help him cancel the railway ticket and refund the amount.

The scammers then shared a file with the which had was named as Ticket Cancellation & Refund App. The victim was then asked to download the said app. The scammers then induced the victim to share his bank account details which was used by the scammer to siphon Rs 1.32 lakh from the victim's bank accounts. When the victim checked his bank statement he was shocked to know about fraudulent transactions.

The victim then approached the police and got an offence registered in the matter recently. The cyber police have registered a case under section 318 (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and section 66D (cheating by personation by using computer resource) of the Information Technology Act.
