Despite the state government’s move to tighten the implementation of its COVID-19 containment measures, 14 of the 36 districts continued to report a high weekly growth rate and an increase in COVID-19 cases against the weekly average of 0.22%. These districts include Sindhudurg (2.09%), Ratnagiri (1.33%), Kolhapur (1.20%), Satara (0.69%), Sangli (0.68%), Raigad (0.43%), Osmanabad (0.41%), Palghar (0.35%), Solapur (0.30%), Amravati (0.28%), Ahmednagar (0.26%), Yavatmal (0.25%0, Beed (0.23%) and Akola (0.22%).
On the other hand, the Public Health Department in its presentation to the state cabinet, chaired by the Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, on Thursday, said Nanded and Nandurbar have the lowest growth rate at 0.04%.
As far as the weekly positivity rate is concerned, 9 of the 36 districts have a high positivity rate against the weekly average of 5.89%. These districts comprise Kolhapur (16.06%), Raigad (14.90%), Ratnagiri (13.74%), Pune (12.19%), Satara (11.54%), Sindhudurg (11.23%), Sangli (6.80%), Aurangabad (6.48%) and Thane (6.12%).
In order to tackle the third COVID-19 wave, the state has geared up with additional health infrastructure. There are 4,62,729 isolation beds (excluding ICU), 3,33,384 isolation beds for COVID-19 patients, 1,29,432 isolation beds for suspects, 1,05,521 oxygen beds, total ICU beds 32,369, ventilators 12,657, personal protective equipment (PPE) kits 14,45,827 and N-95 masks 22,34,480.
As of June 9, the state has received 2,46,03,600 vaccine doses, of which Covishield was 2,11,26,400 and Covaxin was 34,77,200.
