With the poll date in Mumbai coming closer, many candidates are engaged in a war of words. On such incident has come forth in Mumbai North West constituency, where Congress and Shiv Sena candidates have engaged in a bitter war of words on social media.

Congress candidate Sanjay Nirupam and Shiv Sena candidate Gajanan Kirtikar have posted open letters on social media in which they slammed each other. Shiv Sena candidate and sitting MP posted a two-page letter on Twitter saying that Sanjay Nirupam was not a person worthy of conversation. This came after the Congress leader had challenged him for a public debate. Gajanan Kirtikar, in his tweet, also said that Nirupam had 11 cases registered against him.

He also questioned Nirupam’s trust in armed forces. Kirtikar tweeted saying, “You have been prompt in raising a question on the bravery of Indian soldiers in 2016 when you asked for proof of surgical strike. A person who cannot respect soldiers cannot respect anybody.”

The war of words started after Sanjay Nirupam posted an open letter on social media for Kirtikar where he challenged the Shiv Sena candidate for public debate and asked to choose the date, time and venue for the debate. Nirupam, in the letter, stated that voters must get a fair opportunity to assess their candidate. In the letter, Nirupam also said, “Please note no proxy can represent either of us.”

But Gajanan Kirtikar refused to take Sanjay Nirupam’s challenge instead. He listed his achievements as an MP. Kirtikar also said that he has raised 1,000 questions in parliament and eight private members bills.
