On the ocassion of 'World Environment Day' annual program 'Majhi Vasundhara 2021-22' was organized under the chairmanship of Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. In this program, the best working Gram Panchayats, Nagar Panchayats, Municipalities, Municipal Corporations, best working departments, districts and officials of the year 2020-21 were honored with awards by the Chief Minister and dignitaries present.
The implementation of this campaign for the year 2021-22 was also inaugurated by the Chief Minister.
On this occasion, "Biosentinals of Coastal Maharashtra" prepared by a cell of the Forest Department was released by the Chief Minister.
Explaining the importance of environment in his life, the Chief Minister said that the greenery has now disappeared from the city. However, he said that the focus on development is endangering lives of human. He said, "during the pandemic period, we realized the importance of oxygen, we are producing oxygen but we are destroying the natural oxygen plant in the form of trees given by nature. "Our forefathers protected the Panchmahabhutas (5 elements of nature) but now there is no place left to build even a simple Tulsi Vrindavan in front of our house due to the skycrabers and buildings."
"We need to understand the importance of the forest and the wildlife, the importance of each and every microcosm of the environment and its form, and even if we don't understand it, we need to preserve and nurture it," he said.
The Chief Minister congratulated all the awardees who participated in my Vasundhara Abhiyan and received awards.
The Chief Minister also said that the work of environmental protection is not only work of one department but also it is the work of human welfare and the interest of the state and the country. He expressed the need to stop encroaching on nature in order to preserve this gift and also hoped that the trees planted during large scale planting would be preserved, coastal beaches would be protected and all elements of the environment would be preserved and nurtured.
