Lake Levels Supplying Water To Mumbai Reached 40%, Moderate Rains Expected This Week

With the early onset of monsoon, Mumbai and it's metropolitan regions has crossed the average June rainfall this year and the city has already received 21.68% of the average annual rainfall so far.

Across the month of June, the state has recieved fairly widespread rainfall, with heavy downpour at the catchment areas too. As a relief to Mumbaikars, the lake levels supplying water to city has reached to 39.50% as of Sunday, June 29 morning. Notably, on the same day in 2024 year, the lake levels were only 5.43% and in 2023 were 8.94%.

With the early onset of monsoon, Mumbai and it's metropolitan regions has crossed the average June rainfall this year and the city has already received 21.68% of the average annual rainfall so far. As of June 29 morning, the Colaba observatory recorded 591.4 mm rainfall and Santacruz observatory recorded 511.2 mm rainfall. On the same day last year, Colaba had recorded 507 mm and Santacruz had recorded 346.9 mm rainfall. 

As per the BMC records, since the arrival of monsoon, Mumbai City have so far recieved 502.5 mm rainfall, the eastern suburbs have received 483.62 mm and the western suburbs have received 449.71 mm rainfall. 

As per the IMD's district weather forecast, a Yellow Alert for heavy rainfall at isolated places is given Mumbai, Thane and Palghar for July 2. For other days of the week, moderate rainfall is expected over the region.

While for the districts of Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg, Orange Alert is issued for heavy to very heavy rainfall. The other districts in the state where warning for heavy rainfall is issued includes: Ghats of Pune and Satara; and across Marathwada and Vidharbha region.

Total capacity of 7 lakes supplying water to Mumbai - 14,47,463 million litres 

Water level of 7 lakes as of June 29, 2025 morning - 5,71,670 million litres (39.50%)

On same day in 2024 was - 78,579 million litres (5.43%)

One same day in 2023 was 1,29,348 million litres (8.94%)
