The Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has initiated the transformation of civic-run schools by installing solar energy systems to reduce electricity consumption. The initiative, launched in conjunction with the Gudi Padwa festival, began with the installation of a solar energy system at School No. 62 in Patharli, Dombivli East. The system was inaugurated by Commissioner Dr. Indu Rani Jakhar.

According to civic officials, School No. 62 is the first school in the twin cities to receive a solar energy system. Madhavi Phophale, Public Relations Officer at KDMC, stated, "Solar energy systems will be implemented in every civic school within two months with the help of public participation." The initiative aims to modernize civic-run schools while significantly reducing electricity costs.

The first solar energy system was installed at School No. 62 with the financial support of Regency Nirmal Group’s developer, Anil Bhatija.

Prashant Bhagwat, Executive Engineer of the KDMC Electricity Department, said, "KDMC operates 60 civic-run schools across the twin cities. The installation at School No. 62 cost ₹2 lakh, funded by Regency Nirmal Group. We plan to approach NGOs, private institutions, builders, and businesses to support the installation of solar energy systems in the remaining 59 schools in the coming months."
