Kalyan, June 9: The Mahatma Phule Police Station in Kalyan have arrested five people including two women for kidnapping a six-month old boy. The police after scrutinizing different CCTV footages trace the accused. They were about to sell the child for Rs 1 lakh.

The police said various beggars usually sleep outside Kalyan railway station on the west side. On June 5, at 10pm Sunita Rajkumar Nath, 30, was sleeping along with her six kids. "Sunita claims the kidnapping took place in-between 10pm to 1am of June 6, 2021. Her youngest child Jeeva was kidnapped by unknown people. She then approached the Mahatma Phule Police Station in Kalyan and informed them about the kidnapping," said a police officer.

The cops after taking statement of Sunita registered a case under section 363 (punishment for kidnapping), 370 (Buying or disposing of any person as a slave) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian penal code and sections of the Juvenile Justice (care and protection of children) Act, 2015.

Accordingly, a team comprising Sambhaji Jadhav, senior police inspector along with assistant police inspector, Prakash Patil and Deepak Sarode and the staff started the investigation.

The police first started scrutinizing the CCTV footages from a nearby area and found two people kidnapping the child.

"Later, we checked the footage at railways but couldn't find it. So we started checking the footage from the city limits and found them boarding an auto-rickshaw. The footage shows them going towards Ambivli, while one of the CCTV had captured the face of the accused. We then inquired about them to locals and got a clue. After investigating for hours we trace them," said a police officer.

The police said the arrested five accused are identified as Vishal Trimbake 20, a resident of Ambivli, Kunal Kot 23, his wife Aarti Kot 22 both from Diva, Farhan Masjid 38 and his wife Heena Masjid 26 both residents of Bhiwandi. "Vishal and Kunal had kidnapped the child from his mother and gave it to Aarti. They were going to sell the child for Rs 1 lakh to Farhan and Heena. Aarti gave the child to the couple when the police intercepted and arrested them," said a police officer.

Sambhaji Jadhav, senior police inspector, Mahatma phule police confirmed about the arrest and said the kid was handed over to his mother within 48 hours. "All the five accused were arrested on 8 and 9 June and after producing in court remanded in police custody till June 14," added Jadhav.

When the police interrogated Heena she gave a different answer saying she had adopted the child as she didn't have one. "But during investigation we found she had earlier given birth to a child through a test tube baby procedure. The child was further sold for Rs 5 lakh. This time they went for a kidnapping and were going to sell the kid to a family in Mumbai. We are checking to whom and for what price they were going to sell the child. Also, they thought being a beggar child the police will ignore them and not investigate. But were shocked to see the police at the doorstep," said a police officer.
