Kalyan: The worsening condition of roads in Kalyan-Dombivli has triggered fresh criticism of the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) with residents alleging that civic authorities have failed to address dangerous potholes despite repeated complaints.
The situation has raised eyebrows as roads in the vicinity of the KDMC Commissioner’s official residence are also reportedly riddled with potholes. The busy stretch connecting Ramdaswadi to Kalyan railway station has similarly deteriorated, making commuting particularly difficult during the ongoing monsoon.
Damaged roads create risks for motorists and raise questions over timely repairs
With several stretches damaged and timely patchwork repairs apparently lacking, motorists are being forced to negotiate pothole-ridden roads. Two-wheeler riders remain particularly vulnerable, as sudden potholes and uneven surfaces can lead to skidding and accidents.
Residents have alleged that despite bringing the issue to the attention of the civic administration, remedial action has been inadequate. They have questioned how such poor road conditions have persisted on important routes used by thousands of commuters every day.
Former corporator takes aim at civic administration
Former Shiv Sena (Shinde) corporator Vidyadhar Bhoir criticised the KDMC administration over the deteriorating condition of roads and alleged that authorities have failed to respond adequately to repeated complaints.
Bhoir said he had repeatedly raised the issue of potholes and poor-quality patchwork with civic officials through personal meetings as well as written and verbal complaints. However, he alleged that the situation remains unchanged.
If roads used by the Commissioner and senior civic officials are also riddled with potholes, one can imagine the condition of roads in other parts of the city Bhoir said, accusing the administration of remaining indifferent to the problems faced by residents.
Residents seek immediate repairs
Residents have questioned whether the civic administration is waiting for a major accident before taking corrective action. The damaged stretch towards Kalyan railway station has become a particular concern, with deep potholes affecting traffic movement and increasing the risk to commuters.
Citizens have demanded that the KDMC conduct an immediate survey of damaged roads and prioritise the filling of potholes that pose an immediate safety risk. They have also called for durable road repairs instead of temporary or substandard patchwork that deteriorates quickly during the monsoon.
Residents warned that if the civic administration fails to act promptly public anger over the deteriorating road infrastructure could spill onto the streets.
KDMC official Statement
KDMC City Engineer Anita Pardesi told FPJ that continuous rainfall has damaged several roads across the city. The civic body is undertaking road scraping and rolling at various locations to keep the roads motorable.
She said comprehensive restoration using Mastic Asphalt and Modified Premix Macadam (MPM) will be carried out after the monsoon. The tendering process for the works has already been completed.
