Kalyan-Dombivli: With the death of a 77-year-old man from Dombivli on Wednesday, Kalyan and Dombivli have now reported three COVID-19-related fatalities, prompting health officials to express concern over the recent rise in cases and to renew public health measures.
The 77-year-old man, who had tested positive for COVID-19, passed away at a private hospital in Dombivli. He was initially admitted to the hospital on May 28. His RT-PCR sample was taken on May 29 and confirmed positive on May 30. The patient, who had a history of cancer, succumbed to the illness on June 4.
Deepa Shukla, a health officer from the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC), said, "He passed away on Wednesday evening. During the medical investigation, we learned that he had taken a COVID-19 vaccine dose."
According to KDMC health officials, a total of 13 COVID-19 cases have been reported in the twin city. Among these, three patients have died after testing positive. Of the remaining cases, one is admitted to a private hospital, seven have been discharged, and two are in home quarantine.
The first COVID-related fatality in Kalyan occurred on May 23, when a 47-year-old woman with pre-existing conditions died in a private hospital. Her test report, confirming COVID-19, came after her death.
The second fatality occurred on May 28, when a 67-year-old man from Kalyan died at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa. He had initially been admitted to a private hospital in Dombivli on May 24. His RT-PCR test confirmed COVID-19 the same night. He was later referred to Kalwa Hospital. The patient had a history of hypertension and diabetes and had been paralyzed following a stroke 12 years ago.
